tommegna
I make 6" and 8" musky lures out of jelutong. I am looking for a walleye paint pattern. I also need Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, and it also would be nice to have a Bluegill recipe. I make these baits for Lake St Clair, Michigan. I have tried to use taxidermy fish paint schedules, but they did not work. Thanks in advance, Captain Tom.
Silo1688
google "how to paint a largemouth/ SM/ pike/ walleye", ect. most likely you will be directed to a art or taxidermy site, this is how I get my information color and some really great techniques! have fun. also open the hard bait recipies and do a search to the type of fish you are tring to pain. there are many different variations. Ichthus
Dakota lakes tackle gives a great instructional on YouTube of how to do a largemouth/smallmouth I'm fairly sure. I also think I saw him paint a bluegill or maybe a perch. But to be honest, when I first painted one, I winged it and it turned out great. I just made some stencils and went to painting. mark poulson
If I were painting a walleye, I'd look at using the glo paint white for the eyes.

scrubs
Haven't heard much about Jelutong being used for lures. Used to use it for decorative bird carving and the dust was nasty. Are you going to thru-wire? bill
tommegna
Scribe Bill, I don't use wire thru for Musky Lures. There are mixed feelings about wire-thru, by many people. I think I will stick to epoxy for 0.92 as screw eyes. I have not had a problem yet. Thanks, Captain Tom Megna
Griffond
Well minus the thru wire part the other thing I would recommend is looking in the tutorial sections there are a bunch of how to's on to get life like looking skins... depending on the lure style (shape) I would get out the inkjet printer with real fish pics and start printing on some good medium and see what you can come up with... can't get more life like then the real thing... just make sure to clear coat anything printed really well just my 2cents

ravenlures
While I have not tried this, try taking either scan or off the web and do a color seperation of the picture and print out each color seperation. Yellow, Cyan and megenta. You will have to set up your printer for this its not hard, it might give you a idea on how to paint your lure, will try this myself later today. Just a suggestion. If it works I will post. Wayne

mdojet
Capt Tom, I recently got a GoPro camera and recorded a video on me painting a Baby Bass pattern which is on YouTube I hope this helps. I believe I mention what paint colors were used. I also have done a Walleye color pattern that has been extremely successful with Northern Pike. To achieve this (it actually happened by accident), I started with a white base coat, then black on the top half of the bait (this will be for the scale outlines). I dress the lure with a scale mask (a scrubbing lufa). I spray a coat of gold. Then I reduced some Olive green paint. Reducing will allow some transparency to take place so the gold blends with the olive green. The stripes and back are a Drab green (I mixed ComArts Chrome Green with black). I then use smoke color (this is transparent as well) along the back and around the eyes. Transparent smoke darkens the colors and adds great depth to it. I added a white belly then clear coat. I hope this helps!!
