Steve Brown
How is the best way to sign and date and name lures
barr5150
For me it's the sharpie pen. It's works best over colors without a lot of gloss. I sign my name, heat set it, over coat it with createx top coat or rattle can acrylic, heat set that then clear coat the entire lure. <a href="http://<a href="http://s1000.photobucket.com/user/barr5150/media/sharpie_zps52a8e75a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af125/barr5150/sharpie_zps52a8e75a.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo sharpie_zps52a8e75a.jpg"/></a> Edited April 3, 2014 by barr5150
Silo1688
I sign them with a thin sharpie and let dry. then take Ctex glossy clear coat and lightly dab it over with a qtip and again let dry. then top coat over that. --George.
Steve Brown
Thanks guys. Anyone tried using decals?
barr5150
I haven't but I saw a youtube video of a guy that used water slide decals. He actually made them first then applied them. Looks neat! You would just need to make sure your topcoats would play nice with them!
saltwater
I had a rubber stamp custom made from an office store. Of course it works only on flat areas of the lure but I take that in to account when I am carving the original plug. I can order very small print sizes and use multiple stamps for curved areas. RayburnGuy
I've used water slide decals to sign lures as well as print custom decals to use. One thing nice about using this method is that you have your choice of about a gazillion different fonts available and once it's sized to fit the lures you can print out a whole sheet of them to be cut out and used when necessary. One drawback is that the decal paper is not suitable with DN S81 urethane. It's possible that other urethane coatings will react adversely as well, but DN is the only one I've used and have knowledge about reacting this way. bassrecord
Ben, I have had no problems whatsoever dipping water slide decals into Dick Nite S-81 MCU. My slides use Testors directions, paper and fixative, are B&W inkjet printed, sprayed with fixative, dried 48+ hours, cut, water dipped both sides, slid onto lure butt, water squeegeed out and air dried 48+ hours before dipping into DN S-81 MCU, hang dried butt high and nose low. There has been no yellowing, curl, wrinkle or any other decal issue with DN S-81. Ben I cannot guess what is causing your issue. The only difference I see between our two methods is that I'm using a different decal paper (Papillio) and their brand of fixative. And instead of air drying for 24 hours after using a squeegee to get the water from under the decal I use a heat gun to dry it. It's not a big deal though because after spraying a coat of Createx gloss and heat drying it the problem is resolved. Ben
