Painter1
SU sells Boss Skirt Collars that look and feel like rubber O rings. Anyone using O rings from a parts house ?
BassBull
I would think that the O-rings you saw were for wacky rigging a Senko type bait. For a skirt collar you want the heavier style. If you plan on doing this type of fishing for a while look up info on how to tie a skirt to lures much better in the long run. Have a good day. cadman
Like BassBull mentioned, "O" rings are not a good choice for a permanent solution. If you want to use "O" rings to h0old the tabs in place while you hand tie, then that is an ideal application, as you can easily roll them off once you are done tying. smalljaw
When I wire tie skirts on a jig or spinnerbait I'll make the skirt using a 3/16" inside diameter "O" ring and put it on the bait and then wire tie it and roll it off, this is much easier than using a skirt collar. From what I understand about the BOSS "O" ring deal is they are enlarged in the picture on the website, in person they are small and very tight and when you put them on a jig or spinnerbait collar they are said to make the skirt appear as if it was hand tied. When I was trying different "O" rings to see which would be the best for holding my skirt in place, I made the mistake of getting some small ones, 1/4" with a 1/8" inside diameter and let me tell you, if the BOSS rings are smaller than that, then I bet they hold fine because the rings don't stretch no where close to the rubber collars so I would imagine they do work. JSC
Use the "O" rings to hold skirt in place for tie n as stated by CM & SJ. Luckily I had some from way back that do the job right but they are not tight enough to hold a skirt on fishin ...

toadfrog
Used to cut my own collars . Went to a surgical supply and got latex tubing on a roll . There are latex O rings as well hard to find . Good stuff will last some dry and break in a year . Actually best to just hand tie ,coat the thread or wire . Some wires tarnish after getting wet . Looks pretty icky on a white skirt .
wootonc
I think the o rings you are talking about go with the flare bands they sell to to make the skirt flare out more. I have bought some a while back and just have not got time to try them yet, I bought them for my swim jigs I make. You have to have the flare band and the oring they sell. Hope this helps. JBarlow
Search for the term "Wacky" on the tackle merchant web sites. Most have them.
mark poulson
Whatever happened to the smaller hex vibrating jig blades you used to sell?
cadman
Mark, You can't sell the 6 sided coffin blades anymore. They are trademarked or something like that by "Z" man. You can have them custom made though and have seen a lot of different and custom sizes for all applications. bass100
The o-rings are for holding skirts onto jigs. I have been using the o-rings for about 2 years now and I love them. I use to only hand tie but since the o-rings I only tie my heavy cover jigs or my 3/4+ jigs. I haven't had a skirt slid down yet and I use a jig every time I go fishing. I quickly realized that the price for fishingskirts.com was a bit high so I now get them from here www.bdi-usa.com I don't know where to go on the website because they are local for me. I think I pay $1.50 per hundred.

mark poulson
I just checked that site, and the shipping is really high.
nedyarb
I went ahead and ordered 2000 o rings they were 5$ per 500. The shipping was 18$....which is insane. If anybody is interested i will sell 500 for 10$. Skirts unlimited sells them 5$ for 50. They are the same o rings. Also i put them on after i wire tie the skirt. The ring is really tight on the skirt collar and flares out the skirt when you push the o ring up tight
nedyarb
This is how i use the o ring to make removeable skirts.
nedyarb
It really makes the skirt flare..
RAWJigs
I use the orings from fishing skirts ... love them. I have tried other orings that same size with no success, they always break and what not. I hate they are 10 bucks for 100 of them but I have never had one dry rot or break from fishing skirts ... bass100
nedyarb, it sounds like you got a great deal. $38 for 2000 o-rings and that included shipping. If you bought them through fishingskirts.com you would have paid $200 and that does not include the shipping.
bass100
RAWjigs, I have been using the BDI o-rings for several years now and I have not had one break or dry rot either.
RAWJigs
I might have to try them out then. I have tried just plain orings and they just break. I use split ring pliers to put them on my tool, the FS ones no problems, the plain orings would either break trying to put on the tool or break at some point. nedyarb
Im fairly sure they the same rings that SU sells. They are somewhat hard to push onto the plastic skirt tool. But i honestly have never broke any. I tried using them in the skirt expander tool but i couldnt open the rings far enough to get the skirts through.
