steve71
Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you work out of your basement? My basement only has one window for a small fan so I was wondering if it would be safe to make soft plastics in there? Ferree
The chemical fumes are pretty harsh on your lungs. When I am going to pour more than a few baits I open a front 10X10 overhead door, and the rear 10X14 overhead door and let the breeze blow thru. If there is no breeze I have three box fans I place under the back door, and a pedestal fan I place at one end of my pouring bench. If that isn't an option you might consider a full window fan in your basement window and replaceable cartridge type painters respirator mask. I have one of those too. I would also place your pouring bench directly under the window and keep the basement door open to maximize airflow and draw fumes directly out. X10!! Richard Prager
If you can smell it.....you're breathing it....period! Proper ventilation is vital to your health.....
nova
You also have to remember that the fumes will rise up through the house and the family upstairs will smell it. I learned that the hard way;lol.
smallmouthaholic
Many hobbyist wish to pour their own soft-baits and that's fine. Having a working table/surface in front of a large window fan is an in-expensive set-up that will do the job. That said, working in a basement can present a challenging exhaust system that may require an exhaust booth/custom hood w/ a 10-12'' duct /650+CFM in- line fan exhausted through the window. You'll want to make sure the exhausted fumes do not enter open windows above the basement and enter your home. Fan blades need to be cleaned periodically as plastisol fumes/smoke leaves slippery, gummy film which attracts dirt / dust ,reducing the effectiveness of the fan. We only have one set of lungs and need to protect them from harmful, long term exposure.

BigLewers
I shoot in my basement. I was in the Garage but my boat got in the way. Now that I am in the basement, it's way better. less hummidity and way cooler. I have a window above my work bench that I will open up and turn the fan on. It pulls it all out the window. I have never had any issues as far as smell or fumes getting to the upstairs.
