finsane
First off i would like to express my thanks to all for providing such good information. I have been following threads on and off for a couple of years and have been able to put to use quite a bit of info that I've read in these forums. I have developed a lure and am beginning to search for a manufacturer that is capable of producing it. It is a plastic plug, there will be three sizes,4", 5.5", and 7". I would prefer through wire construction but am not opposed to using screw eyes. Quality and consistency are a must as well as being based in the US. Any input will be very appreciated and thanks again for such good info from all.
BobP
To me, thru-wiring is for one fishing scenario - if the fish bites so hard or fights with such strength that it crushes or breaks the body of the bait, the thru-wire will keep the bait together long enough to land that one fish - after which it's toast anyway. I haven't seen thru-wire on a hard plastic bait and haven't had a figure-eight hook hanger pull out of one - so am wondering why the spec for thru-wire construction? saltshaker
It might be more important to have the thru-wire on balsa bodies, but, IMO...it's totally overkill on plastic.....for the reason Bob noted. I've caught 15-20 lb. redfish on 2" Mann's crankbaits with the only problem being the hook size. Never had a lure malfunction.
finsane
Well to be honest I simply thought it would be stronger and therefore a better quality product. I am still new to the manufacturing processes of lures. As I have experimented with making prorotypes I have made molds with and without provisions for thru wiring. If building it with screw eyes or figure 8 inserts is sufficiently strong without compromising quality then that is the direction I'll go, especially if it is more cost effective. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it. The original question still however remains. Does anyone have ant reccomendations for a US based company that is capable of producing these baits ?
