adambuss1
I just ordered a handful of these holographic baits. I can not figure out what the holographic material is, and how it is applied to the bait......Would love to know how this is done so I can possibly apply the holographic material to other baits. I can not feel an edge where the holographic starts......
benton B
Just a guess but maybe it placed on the inside of the lure before it's put together.
adambuss1
I don't think it is.....Because the bills still have tape wrapped around and some of the holograph material is on the tape also. I think the bait is painted with what ever the white is (paint or adhesive) and then the holograph is over top of the white.......
mark poulson
adambuss1, It looks that way to me, too. I have no clue how it's done, but it is an overlay, not internal. I bought some, and I'm wondering if a finger-applied rub coat of a transparent paint, thinned, would color the white lines in the scale pattern, but allow me to remove the color, or most of it, from the holo itself. Something for me to try, anyway. Edited May 16, 2014 by mark poulson
nedyarb
I've bought many of those holographic lures. I have no clue how they do it.

nova
Got a feeling it's done with heat using a stamping foil type material. Just a guess.
benton B
My guess sucked
nedyarb
I really like painting over the foil. It still shines through the paint!
DaveG
Got a feeling it's done with heat using a stamping foil type material. Just a guess. This, the holograph is on film initially then transferred by heat on contact
wchilton
I'd guess stamping foil too. It's super thin so you wouldn't feel the edge. Foil is on a plastic film with very thin layer of hot-melt adhesive on the back. You press the foil against your part, heat the front (of the carrier film) and the ahesive sticks to the part and foil then peels off the film and stays on your part. ArdentAngler
I'm thinking its from a gift bag, there is someone on here who spoke of removing the material from the bag and using an adhesive to place it on the lure. My best guess
Krash7172
I paint over holo foil. Great effect. I use scotch brite pads to lightly scuff the clear finish and not ruin the foil. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/topic/27948-how-to-foil-a-jig-like-this/
mdojet
I found this http://www.identi-tape.com/deco-fish-lure.html
Krash7172
I've tried tape and decals. It's much thicker than the foil in the video, leaves an edge and doesn't conform well to round surfaces or fine details. If you do get it to adhear to a round surface, Solvent based paint or top coat can cause it to peel up around the edges.
Sonny.Barile
I was going to guess that the painted lure was clear coated over the foil, then had the effects added using transparent paints, then cleared again. I guess I would have been wrong.........
GillGrabber
I've found several websites that have various materials that might be used for holographic finishes. Most are fly-tying materials but could be adapted for other uses. http://www.leroyflytying.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23&products_id=367 http://www.leroyflytying.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25&products_id=1291 http://www.bearsden.com/product3232.html http://www.bearsden.com/product10423.html http://www.bearsden.com/product1576.html
