Nathan
Came across this system at. http://www.copicmarker.com. Very interesting system that uses permanent markers for it's color source.I'm thinking this might be great for guys building micro baits where weight is a issue. There are several tutorials on u Tube for it...Nathan
mark poulson
It took me a while to figure it out, but it looks like a really neat system.
gone2long
I have no personal experience with it but seems kinda wasteful drying out the tip of a marker, would like to here from someone with experience though.
jonister
I own one of these and I think it works well but the only problem I had with it was bleeding, after each lure was done it would go straight into a heat box to cure for a while. The paint starts to blend in with anything coated over it. It may have been the coating I use (e-tex) but ive also tried it on painted lead inserts going into epoxy resin molds but even then it has bled into the epoxy. I have just stuck to a normal airbrush from now on. It may be me just not doing something right but I would recommend it for painting flies and just for some other applications so you could try it. Nathan
Permanent markers will often bleed or run when certain top coats are applied. You may need to first coat with something water based to protect the marker then top coat with e- tex...Nathan

Can you use it to do detail work? I am ham fisted when it comes to fine lines, so I use sharpies, and paint over them with transparents to hide my shaky handiwork. Nathan
Mark, I don't know for sure...but I don't think so.Just looking at the equipment I don't think it is set up for detail work...none of the videos on you tube I've seen shows them doing detail work. The fly fisherman sure love this thing..especially the guys painting poppers...Nathan

jonister
The markers themselves should work great for detailing as they have two ends, one wide tipped and one pointed. the wide tip is the side used for airbrushing. scrubs
It used to be used for micro RC models also. Couldn't measure the weight gain except with a 1/100 gm scale. What I was doing for awhile on my models was taking the wick out of a sharpie with some alchohol and putting that in a regular airbrush. I suspect analine dyes would work better and be cheaper in the long run. bill
Roy_Detroit
Copics are very expansive but there is a hack for using other markers. Just a little bit of putty and adjustment skills...done A lot of bla bla... skip to the end: http://heymimi.com/using-other-brand-markers-in-the-copic-abs-airbrush-system/ and here is a hack for the Aircan http://www.jprossflyrods.com/staff/hackles_and_hair/entry.php?id=1072 Greets Daniel Edited June 12, 2014 by Roy_Detroit
