angry monkey
I am having problems coating my muskie lures. The movement is a violent side to side rolling motion. They began to get tacky in the sun. I use three coats of invirotec along with two clear coats. When I applied the clear the temperature dropped below 50 degrees.Could that be the problem or the chemicals interacting together? They cured for weeks. Any suggestions will help. mark poulson
I don't think decoupage epoxies like Etex are meant to have another type of clear put over them. Maybe the solvent in the clear coats reacted with the Etex in some way.
Matt Moreau
Was the ETEX actually hard and fully cured when you cleared over it? ETEX is really tough to use and if you do not mix EXACT amounts for atleast 5 minutes and say 7 hail mary's then you could be asking for trouble! Griffond
I am gonna blame the clear coat paint on the cloudy part... with muskie lures use etex or d2t and let them dry for at least a full 24hrs two days would be better... especially this time of year with humidity a couple other guys I know up north just use many coats of clear coat however all there lures are wood and are only expected to last a season 2 at most. saltshaker
Mark, I've used a moisture cure urethane over Etex for 2 years now and haven't had any problems with reaction. I always let the epoxy cure, tho (24 hrs) before applying the MCI. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Have you tried PVC as a building material? I made some jointed swimbaits for a friend who fishes the salt, and he has caught toothy fish, like barricuda, with them. The teeth go into the PVC, but the lures still fish because they are waterproof.

It has always been my finish top coat when I've used it. I'm curious...why do you put urethane over the epoxy?
saltshaker
I just feel the KBS is the tougher of the two. If I didn't need the epoxy for the foil I use...I would use the urethane exclusively. I tried that but it takes too many apps to get the same result.
