saltwater
Micro-balloons can be used as a filling material inside a bait. There is little strength to it even when mixed with epoxy. It is used as a glaze/putty/filler under fiberglass/carbon fiber.
robalo01
Ok, so I should have elaborated. I know what they are and what they are for, I can get this particular brand locally, but I want to know if resins like alumilite can be made to float with this particular type of microbaloons (assuming they are any different that what alumilite handles). Griffond
Thats really interesting Rob... I was thinking about some stuff along micro balloons there is a kids product they sell all over even the dollar store that is made from micro balloons of a sort and I know they float cause the kids have had it... its made to sculpt into shapes of random things I had wondered if a person could shape it into a lure and resin it over with something... and it still float. mark poulson
Way back when super glue first came out and was called Crazy Glue, I used to build control line airplanes with one of my sons and we would use micro balloons to make fairings at the joints, to soften them into curves and to reinforce them. Those were plastic balloons, if I remember correctly. It was back in the '70s, so I may not remember correctly. They were brownish red, and felt like fine sand. We would shape them with our fingers, add a drop of crazy glue, and they would immediately become rigid and hold that shape. I think any micro balloon that isn't dissolved by the epoxy or resin you're using should work. Just be sure to take breathing precautions, like using a good dust mask. That stuff goes everywhere.
