mark poulson
In the interest of sharing.... I had posted how several of my DD22 cranks that were left on the deck of my boat in the sun swelled up and cracked the paint and top coat. I scrapped them down to bare plastic, dipped them in acetone to smooth out the scrape and sanding marks, and then check them out. The plastic bodies had swollen unevenly, so the bodies were slightly asymmetrical. I went ahead and repainted one with the same phantom red craw pattern I used on my wiggle warts, and dipped it in Solarez. I've fished it for two weeks now, and it runs true, even though the body looks like lumpy oatmeal in places. I've caught fish on it, so maybe the fish like lumpy oatmeal. Hahaha I tried fishing several heat swollen red eye shads and they didn't swim at all, just spun out. I'm guessing the larger crank is inherently more stable, so the swelling didn't affect it as much.
Musky Glenn
Ain't that a sick feeling when you first discover those odd shaped bulging bodies. Had many a dd22 and other bass lures do that also. Now it is $20.00 musky lures that I can't remember to keep out of the sun. sonoman
A red eye shad wont run correctly if one of the eyes comes off!
mark poulson
I was really surprised that the DD22 ran so true, even though it was swollen unevenly. I know that red eye shad are finicky. I don't do anything to them except fish them, and keep them out of the sun!
Travis
Wasn't too long ago and this was the hot thing to do.
RayburnGuy
Don't fish them after they swell up Mark. No matter what shape they end up being. Sooner or later your going to get a swollen one that catches fish like crazy and you'll end up with DD22's lined up on the sidewalk all the way around the corner trying to get another one just like it. Then you'll HAVE to win the lottery just to afford all the DD22's. Ben

mark poulson
Back when the rec.outdoors.fishing.bass Usenet group was still active a lot of the guys there talked about boiling Bandit lures to make them swell up. So I guess the lumps at attractive to bass, or, at least, the bigger profile.
