ravenlures
I am just wondering how, in a question by mdojet on fish pattern, how he did the tapeing of the bill. It really looks really clean I have yet to see one that clean. Wayne By the way the lure looked great mdojet.
mark poulson
You can use one longer strip of 1 1/2" blue masking tape to cover the main part of the bill, right up to the nose, and then a thinner strip on each side to cover the little triangles of uncovered bill that are left. Once you've done it a few time, it takes about a minute and a half. Don't be afraid to reset the tape if it doesn't go on right the first few times, and you can use a pair of scissors to trim any excess after it's applied, so it doesn't get in the way of your painting. saltshaker
Getting a clean tape line is simply a matter of patience and just a little more time. No real art to it...that I can tell. Sure does make a lure look more professional, IMO. Some painters tape straight across the nose of the lure and paint the miter cut on the lip....instead of leaving it clear. Why? Because it's easier, I reckon.
joetheplumber
I have ordered some blanks in the past that came with the bills rapped in something similar to sandwich rap. It left a very neat line around the bill of those lures but I have never tried to apply it to any of my other baits.
