mark poulson
That is neat, and should be a great tool if you're designing cranks. To be able to see how small tweaks affect a lure without having to pond test it would sure save a lot of time.
barr5150
I like the idea. Problem is I think the tube at the bottom of the tank is too small to test cranks though. The water at the top of the tank doesn't seem to have a consistent enough flow of water to test cranks accurately. Just my opinion but I tried a few times for something similar a few months back and much like most people on this board said it's not that simple. Anglinarcher
I saw something like this about a year ago at a Fly Shop. For flies, with limited swimming action, it works great. But, like Barr indicated, it is not large enough to deal with a crank bait, let alone enough to handle diving angles, etc. I still think that there is a way to do a test tank, and I suspect that there is something in this design that might help make it work, but .......... at least the one I saw will not work for cranks. It might work for in line spinners and minnow baits.
Vodkaman
A very cool piece of kit. May well be enough for small cranks. It broke my heart to have to bin my 8' x 4' x 18" Dave

Anglinarcher
Dave, NO, please don't tell us we won't see more of those great videos. You have taught me so MUCH. OK, how do we get it back in service? Steve
Vodkaman
I had to give up my rented house when I could not pay the rent. So everything that I had built got dumped. I am currently in China, working to get some funds in the bank, so that I can start again. DAve

hazmail
Hi Dave-- don't know where you are in China but if you come across 5 BMX rear sprockets can you tell them to get them in the bag, I have been waiting 5 weeks for them for my 'copy lathe'-- Where are you working, back at a car factory ("Great Wall")???? or moulding plastic lures??, I imagine it would be pretty interesting no matter where YOU are mate. Have fun . Pete Edited July 23, 2014 by hazmail
TheSilverFox
I haven't tried it yet but the wife has an endless pool at her clinic. You can set the water speed from almost nothing up to where you can't stand up in it. Probably be a good test. I got in it when she didn't have any patients one time and cut it up all the way. It washed me to the far end of the pool like I was a leaf... learned my lesson quick.

Vodkaman
Hi Pete - I am currently working in Shanghai. Before this I was working in Liuzhou and Donguan. Car design stuff. Postal is very difficult here. It took nearly a month to receive my new bank card from the UK. The problem is language, very few Chinese people speak let alone read English. I can imagine your package just continually placed at the bottom of the pile. Shanghai is an amazing city, but I am so busy with work (80hrs a week) that I just don't feel like getting out there to explore and take photos.
