biggamefish
Hey guys I carved out a little 5" swimbait and I'm looking for some jig hooks or custom jig hook molds for this bait ,anywhere I can find them? Or any tips on how to make it myself? Here's how the bait looks like I've use a jig hook that I took out from a strom shad swimbait and it works well, I'm looking for something similar
mark poulson
I use weighted hooks that I buy here: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Swimbait_Hooks/catpage-TTWHK.html I'm sure there are other sources. I found that I needed at least 3/8 oz, down low in the bait, to allow me to retrieve it with any speed and not have it roll. 1/2 oz is better. I couldn't find a hook that heavy, so I pinched some big split shots onto the weight of the 1/4 oz hooks I could get, put on some super glue, and that's what I wound up using. But there must be sources for heavier hooks. I just quit looking. The lead oxidizes and turns white, so it's best if you can powder coat it before you pour it into your swimbait. Smallie
Go to the Walmart and look at the Storm swimbaits. Pick one that is translucent and you can see how their internal weight is shaped. You will find that it is shaped somewhat like an Erie Jig.
