Dinkerblue
Hello The other day I got back to pouring & making some large soft baits but I noticed while so i melted some old baits while heating and mixing the melted plastic to pour into my aluminum mold there seems to be a problem while im mixing and getting ready to pour my baits they have been coming out with a lot of bubbles after they are cooled they are spongy and are not solid all the way through. So I tried while im pouring to raise the Pyrex cup about 7-12" above to create a thin stream while I pour. This seemed to help somewhat a little but I run the risk of getting burned if its windy.have any of you experience this and also have any other suggestions that would help Thanks. MonteSS
Water or high humidity this time of year
alsworms
If you search the forums for "bubbles in plastic," you should find a bunch of threads on this subject. Could be any number of things: brand of plastic, moisture getting into your mixture, humidity, etc. Monte beat me to it! LOL
MonteSS
Just noticed you were melting old baits, so yes moisture is the prob. Especially if any baits had salt in them .
alsworms
My old eyes missed that one too! Yup......remelting old baits is a HUGE no-no, unless you know what's in them or you made them yourself.......

Bassinfool
No no's of remelts: never remelt powerbait, ever. Just don't do it. I'm telling you so you avoid being burned. Don't melt baits that have been in water recently or that have moisture on them. If they've been in water or have moisture and still want to remelt them best course of action is to lay them on some paper towels somewhere dry and leave them there for weeks. Yes, weeks. You want all the moisture out of those baits.
mark poulson
I let old, used plastics sit on my garage work bench in the open air for six months before I remelt them.
Baitjunkys
Get it hot. Let it cool till the bubbles disapear in the pyrex. Reheat and pour.
MonteSS
I heard puuting electronics (like a cell phone) that got wet in a bag of rice removes moisture. Wonder if it works with plastic?
Basseducer
You could put your old used plastic baits in a box of kitty litter.
mark poulson
If you leave your smart phone in the same rice as the plastics, will you be able to talk to the new lures you pour?
alsworms
If you leave your smart phone in the same rice as the plastics, will you be able to talk to the new lures you pour? You can only text them.
