MonteSS
As I mentioned on the Baitjunkies forum I am having probs with injector getting scratched. Wally was not. We are still looking into why. He is using stuff from Harbor freight. I am using stuff from ebay. Joel. You are using the 80 grit Black Bull stuff from Tractor supply? Bassinfool
80 grit black bull is what I use and have had zero problems, yet, that could change of course. If you feel as if you're scratching the inside of the injector I would suggest using some worm oil on the oring and running it though the injector a few times to put a little protective coat throughout the injector. This is what I have been doing and aside from possibly protecting the injector it just makes injecting smoother, less plastic sticks to the walls of the injector and overall makes things less of a headache. Also, I have found that the beads can sometimes introduce air into the plastic so that could account for some of the clarity issues as well, don't know if that is the case with yours or not just something I have experienced first hand. Good luck, the baits look nice regardless.
Frank
So if you look up the thread caney creek sinking additive and see the post where I said to to google bead blasting media and that I got mine from harbor freight that is where this stuff started. After that people tried all kind of products.
wallyc14
Thanks monte , as far as durability goes two words FREAKEN AWESOME ! I'll save the salt for taste in the plastic
wallyc14
Can't remember where I got the idea I have seen several discussions on it and people mention that Gary Yamamoto had silica in it and I got tired of shelling out the money for hd so I dove head first and love it and don't think I will go back but I can tell you this whoever came up with the idea I would like to shake their hand! :-)
nedyarb
Frank....you are correct. However I never opened that thread after I posted my results with the hd additive. So I missed out on it.
joelhains
Yes I have the 80 grit Black Bull. I'm experimenting with different ratios of media to plastic but I already know I m going to like it much better than the HD Sinking Additive! Whoever it was who first came up with this idea is a genius!
Bassinfool
So far, I have found only positives when using the bead blasting material. Baits look better, feel better, last longer and still have great action to boot. If you haven't tried it yet you need to soon. Once you use it I think you'll have a hard time ever using anything else, it's really that good.
Frank
It's not me neither. Even Carolina Mike said something. But way back when it came out someone hear said it was glass beads. I posted where to find them. There was even a thread on caney creeks forum but got lost if you know what I mean. Got to give it to Jason putting softener and glass beads together in one package. He deserve the credit.

MonteSS
Well then TY Jason, Mike, Frank, Wally and baitjunkys. Did I leave anyone out? This stuff is a game changer either way.
joelhains
I shot these baits tonight. One has glass beads (2 tbps to 6 ounces of plastic) and does not. Can you tell which is which? Personally I'm very pleased! Edited September 13, 2014 by joelhains
21xdc
Would using finer glass media be a better option for less scratching of injectors? 100-170 and 170-325 are some options.
21xdc
WalMart sells it and may ship to their stores free for local pick up... Search "Glass bead blast media" on WalMart site... I cant seem to post a link..
MonteSS
Looks like way too expensive at Wallymart

joelhains
I'm really liking this bead media! I poured these and really like them a lot! They have bead media in the body and the claws have extra floating additive in them. The result is a craw you can fish Texas rigged without having to use a weight! It is heavy enough to get down to the bottom with the claws waving around to get the fish attention. I poured these ones clear with black flake as more of an experiment to see how clear the bait would turn out. I did a 1 tbsp. to 2 ounce of plastic ratio. This particular color will be used in the river for smallies. I fished a couple of these yesterday in a different color and they absolutely hammered it! The only downside I'm seeing is it makes the plastic more firm, but I imagine adding a little softener should offset that disadvantage. Bassinfool
Sticks with using the media. Watermelon red Watermelon seed Bright Junebug Green Pumpkin You can see how transparent they are. This is one of the watermelon sticks held up to the sun. mark poulson
Those look really good. How flexible and durable are they?
wallyc14
Really flexible and better than salt Really flexible and better than salt
Bassinfool
Surprisingly they're very flexible and very soft. Most of the time I don't even add softener to the plastic (I'm using a soft formula of plastisol) where as when I used salt I was adding 3/4-1 tablespoon of softener to 1/2 cup of plastic just to get the right wobble. Bassinfool
Not a very good picture, but you can get the gist of how much floppiness the baits have. This is one of the green pumpkin sticks from above that has 1/4 teaspoon of softener added to 1/2 cup of plastic. When I compare these baits with others I have done with no softener in them I honestly can't discern any differences between the two. I really love this bead media though. It suspends better than salt, the baits look better with more transparency, I don't have to tweak the color formulas much if at all and although I haven't tested it yet I feel like they're going to be much more durable just with how they feel in the hand. wallyc14
Montess did point out though that It scratches the bore of the injecter and it did mine too but it'd still use them
Bassinfool
I still haven't noticed any scratching with my injector, but that doesn't mean it won't happen in the future. I try to keep a small layer of worm oil on the inside of the injector to protect it from any scratching.
