jigman
I have only made resin molds in the past and want to start using RTV. I want to know if I can use a plastic bait as a master using RTV, or does the master need to be made out of modeling clay. Thanks
wchilton
I've use wood (with clear coat finish), soft plastic, modeling clay, sculpey, but not hard plastic yet. The only things I know of that RTV sticks to is itself and GLASS. Don't mix RTV in a glass container...it's a real pain to clean out. I've mixed RTV in rigid plastic measuring cups and it peals away just fine so I'd expect no problem with using a hard plastic model.
Travis
I thought I had mixed in glass before with no issues but maybe I am wrong. Edited September 26, 2014 by Travis
Bassinfool
I mixed it in small plastic mixing bowls and in solo cups but not glass. All the molds I've made using RTV used either soft plastics or clay and I've never had a problem using either.
Long Lake Lures
You can use soft plastics as masters, but what I have noticed is that sometimes, oils/additives in the plastic slows down the curing process and i end up with cavities that lose some detail. So I now wash the plastic thoroughly and leave the mold to set up longer. I use Oomoo 25. Hope this helps, Dave
