Silicone Injector

Recommended Posts

For the first time I tried to play with a multiple pieces aluminum injection mold ... but I did not buy the aluminum injector, so I used an icing pastry silicone syringe: it works!

The body is in silicone, the spout is in polypropilene, the piston in ABS.

I pour the hot plastisol inside the body, close with piston and inject.

Bye.

For Bassinfool

Remove the piston. Stand up the syringe with the spout down on the working bench. Pour the hot plastisol inside the syringe. Close the syringe with the piston. Slope the syringe more than 45°. Stand the conical spout inside the conical injecting door of the mold (mine it is conical). Softly push.

The piston is really hard and is not affected by hot plastisol.

The silicone syringe has got a conical tip that continues per 3/4 inside the plastic spout.

If you find it in a Household Shop, try it (less than 5$ per 13 oz. fl,)

Bye

Why an accident must happen? I do not discuss about the fact an aluminum injector should be more efficient in comparison with the silicone syringe, but, please would you like to explain us the reason of your criticism? Have you already tried a similar system? I did and it works: I used it for more than 2 hours without any leakage from the piston and the silicone body. The unique difference is that I have to pour hot plastisol inside the silicone pipe before injection instead to suck it. O course the use of athermal gloves is a must in both cases.

Why have I to spend 50$ when I can spend 5?

Bye.

I'm guessing Monte has been burned by hot plastic before.  I know I have.  I'm sure he's just trying to warn you to be careful.

I use silicone NorPor cups to melt my plastic in my microwave, so I know it is a very stable material, but I also know it is flexible, like I am imagining your syringe assembly might be.  From my own experience with injectors, I would also be worried that it is more dangerous than metal injectors because of that.

But all plastic, heated to 350 degrees, is a potential disaster waiting to happen.

So I am also worried about you getting burned, nothing more.

People here at TU look out for each other.

So be careful.

Dear Self Makers, first of all I would like to say that I appreciate your well based concerns. Yes, of course the strength of the silicone syringe cannot be compared with the aluminium one, but at same time I would like to focus your attention upon the pipe ribs that renforce the structure. In Italy I think to be one of few plastisol pathfinder about the soft plastic bait selfmade. Only from a short time in Europe is possible to buy multi figures alluminium mods, till now I realised mine molds in silicone (and one in electroerosed alluminium). At same time I don't produce big batches. So, to close, I would like only to say that if you have only a little bit experience with plastisol and you would like to try with injection process, a silicone syringe could be a cheap opportunity with the maximum attention to safety ... as forever.

Mark, what is it your feedback about the Dexas cup? Perhaps it is a little bit more structured (i.e. safer) than the NorPro one, isn't it?

Bye

Cami,

I actually have two of the Dexas cups.  I use them for larger hand pours, and for heating plastic for injection.

I like the flexibility of the NorPro cups.  I use a heavy duty spring paper clip to hold the two sides together at the top and form a smaller spout, for finer hand pours.  Plus the tall, thin shape holds the heat in the plastic longer.

yeah get an aluminum injector. I used to attempt to use cheaper ones / make my own. one broke and the pressure flung hot plastic all over the place, some got on my face and I screamed.

spend the money and dont get a story to tell like mine

I think he's working with what's available in his neck of the woods I can imagine to have an injector shipped would be pretty pricey, as long as safety steps are taken no harm no fowl we have been improvising in this hobby from the beginning and some innovations have come from it, but point taken always think safety!

Cami,

For a long time I used a chrome-plated brass marinade injector for plastics,  It got hot to the touch, so I wore gloves, but it worked.  Maybe you can find something like that locally.

I don't think he is saying his way is broken but just letting everyone know his results. That thing looks pretty stout and could handle what he is doing with it. I've seen videos of tips falling off and those silicone cups that are so soft they can barely hold them selves up. Heck even seen a video that's shows an injector being purged with the nozzle pointing straight up just to get air out. Didn't seen safe to me but to each his own. Cami thanks for sharing. And I am real sure it would cost an arm and leg to get an injector where you live.

Dear Soft Bait Makers,

thank you for all your suggestions, I really appreciate them.

First of I have to say that Europe is growing in this hobby: http://www.almomail-peche.com/index2.php?url_principal=index.htm

Such said, it true that is quite impossible for us to buy an american mold directly from your e-shops for all the reasons said by you.

For Mark

In Italy we do not have your BB culture and it is quite impossible to find a marinade injector. I'm searching a metal icing syringe for pastry.

For Bob

The hot temperature of plastisol can ruin the external spout in PP, instead the inner spout is in silicone. Silicone retains heat, instead metal transmits heat, so perhaps you can use the silicone syringe longer. I tried for 2 hours and the clearance between the silicone body and the piston has remained strict (I must oil the innner walls of syringe).

For Frank

Thank you to exist, you are a reference for me.

Bye

Cami
