bass100
There are several hundred species of crawdads whose belly colors range from black, brown, green, red, orange, blue, etc. Do a little research for your area and you will most likely find out that there are several different belly colors that will work for you. Darkman
I second what Bass 100 said, do some research on the crawdads in your area.....In my area I don't have to worry to much about belly color cause all brown/brown works awesome as we have brownish/ greenish Crawdads. in a lake about an hour or so black with Red or All Purple is the ticket with the red on the bottom...good luck homie

BuckMaxx
darker on the bottom lighter on the top is what I have always done. I also like my base color to be out of living rubber.
mark poulson
Molting crawdads with softer shells have lighter bellies. I saw it in a seminar video on the internet, so it must be true. Seriously, after seeing that video, I poured some green pumpkin/white belly plastics, and won a tournament on them, on a tough bite. So some white strands on the belly...just sayin. Edited October 6, 2014 by mark poulson
smalljaw
I do 2 different crawdad pattern jigs, one is a molting craw and lets say for a flipping jig with 60 strands to make it easy I'll use brown on the top, green pumpkin in the middle and watermelon magic craw Dalmatian on the bottom. That gives it a little lighter color to the bottom with a blue hue and when mixed with the darker colors looks pretty natural. For my summer craw it is green pumpkin, orange pumpkin with 1/2 tab of dark amber, 5 stands of orange and 5 stands of pearl, that makes the bottom lighter while adding the orange that gets on the claws of the craws in the waters I fish. The dark amber with a little, no more than 5 strands, of pearl makes a good representation of that lighter color belly of a craw, give it a try. BTW if you can't find the dark amber, I believe it is number 477 at fishing skirts dot com.
