Big Ray
Hi guys I was wondering if I was to use a laminate plate to make two color bait do I need a separate injector. I keep thinking that I need another injector so I can inject the next color right away. Or can I just wait for the plastic in my injector to cool down then pull it out and shoot the next color. Bassinfool
More convenient, yes. Necessary, no. Having a spare nozzle on hand is useful. Inject first color, purge injector into cup/pot, let mold set up for a minute, push excess plastic out of injector, put on new tip, replace lami plate with mold and inject the second color. Big Ray
Cool that will save me some money because I want to buy another mold and I want to try making two color baits. I would rather just buy the other mold for now and if I feel that I need the other injector I will get it later. I like the idea of a separate nozzle. So can I order just the nozzle for my injector from baitjunkys. Edited October 6, 2014 by Big Ray
TroutSupport.com
Im not sure that will work... or I might not be understanding what you are doing...ha probably both. .... but here's my though of why i'm not sure it will work except on open hand pour molds. On injection molds that mold will be full upon the injection of the first color. The lam plate feeds the second color at the same time into the mold. You could pull off a core shot with 2 injectors, or you could pour bottom side of mold, close, then inject top color.
Bassinfool
I believe you're confusing a laminate plate with a blending block. A laminate plate is just a plate of aluminum that you use with an existing mold that allows you to shoot only half of the bait. Replace the laminate plate with the other half of the bait mold and you shoot the other side's color. At least that is what I gleaned from your post. Big Ray
No Bassinfool I get it. I was just asking if I need another injector so I can quickly take off the laminate plate then shoot the rest of the bait right away. You already answered the question for me and I was going to try it out tonight. Edited October 7, 2014 by Big Ray
MonteSS
You can wait a lil while to do the second color. It will still be hot enough to bond well. Shoot the lighter color first because the second color should be a lil hotter. Shoot second slow to keep the firts half from lifting and hold good pressure after full. Big Ray
Hey Monte thanks for the advice I will try shooting the colors in that order. Big Ray
I guess I didn't need anything extra after all. I shot some worms and they came out perfect thanks for the advice Monte on shooting the lighter color first and injecting slowly. I am just wondering why does the lighter color have to be shot first? ipt
monte gave you good info. slow but hold pressure but dont over push the injector, that'll force plastic behind the existing plastic in the mold. shoot the light color first so you can keep the temps low. (when you heat much over 350 the color could possibly yelllow) the darker color is easier to heat higher because you wont notice the yellow. if they are for personal use you cant really go wrong, most of us are perfectionists around here! Big Ray
Yeah Monte hooked me up with the information they came out right the first time. I just did like he said I just didn't understand why I had to inject the light color first but you cleared that up for me ipt.
