Mr_Scrogg
Here is my first vise. Given to me by a friend that sparked my building/pouring interest. Says Thompson F on the body of it. Edited October 13, 2014 by Mr_Scrogg
Mr_Scrogg
Should I adjust the clamp to where the lever will be fully pressed to hold the jig, or just press the clamp till the hook is secure and leave it?
mark poulson
If the lever has intermediate stops, you can stop when it's snug. Otherwise, adjust it so it just barely locks down at full pull. You'll be able to see pretty quickly if it's snug enough for what you're doing, or if you need more pressure. Fatman
X2 with Mark - those old vise's still hold a hook well - enjoy it!!!!
Musky Glenn
Those are a great vise and nearly indestructable. They make some cheap vises that have the ability to rotate your work so that you can see the bottom without taking it out of the vise that makes tying a lot easier. Enjoy your vise it is a good one. LedHed
If you are tying fine wire or small hooks you might want to get another vise (that is easier to adjust the holding pressure). The old Thompson is a good vise (and will work) but there are a lot of "easier to use" vises out there now days. You have a good friend - excellent gift. Mr_Scrogg
Bass hooks. Lightest wire is 32798 Mustads. I see a rather large fishing skirts purchase in my future!
mark poulson
I bought the version of this vise that was available 15 years ago, and it is still going strong: http://www.basspro.com/White-River-Fly-Shop-Classic-Vise/product/98228/
Mr_Scrogg
Its nice to be able to find quality that lasts in the current world of 2-3 year lifespan products.
