Britebak Foil

Recommended Posts

I wasn't satisfied with the Britebak "gold" foil I got a few years ago.  It was obviously a brass color, not gold, and it corroded and turned dark brown in spots on the lures I tried it on.  I thought Venture had pulled it from their offerings but might be wrong.  After the failure, I used the silver foil and over-sprayed it with some transparent yellow, which looks fine.

Hey Gino,

If your looking for a good gold color that's still highly reflective try spraying a light coat, or two, of Createx transparent Sunrise Yellow over the silver foil. Here's a bait I did to look like the Rapala perch color. Don't look at the bottom of the bait as it's painted with opaque yellow. The sunrise yellow over the foil is on the sides of the bait.

Yeah ....... Try to call it. They eliminated the receptionist and every option gives you another # to call. When you finally get someone they give you a name and # of someone else that doesn't return calls ........ Went thru hours of this before I posted ...... Try it ...... Hope you have better luck.

Is there another product out there like brite bak

Looking around, I checked out Jones Tones, another supplier of art foils used by some builders.  They announced that they have discontinued their line of foils.  So... it looks like the universe of thin foils for crankbaits is narrowing significantly.  3M makes some adhesive foils but they are 3 and 5 mm thick.  The 3 mm foil is about 5X the thickness of heavy duty aluminum foil, so I'm doubtful of its usefulness.  All I can think of now is to use the aluminum duct tape foil, which I have used in the past and is readily available at home centers.  But I hate that it is so thick and has a thick adhesive backing too.  Damn!

Hey Guys

I used the silver aluminum foil, my first foil bait to boot, it worked out beautifully. I sealed the foil seams with thinned out Devcon  2-ton the seams did not come through when I painted the bait. I done a golden walleye pattern and I followed Ben and Musky Glen advised used the sunrise yellow to get the gold effect worked perfect. To finish the bait I sprayed the back with Createx gold than shaded the bait with transparent black very thin. Got the job done

Thanks again fellow bait builders

Group:

I bumped into something you may find usable as a thin foil cover.

"Amaco - Art Emboss"- This does not have anything on the back, but a mist of any of the 3M spray adhesives will fix that.

Here is a link to Amazon - Amazon.com: AMACO ArtEmboss 125 6-Inch-by-6-Inch Metal Sheets, Bright Gold Extra Light

Also can be found at "Crafts 2000" a thin foil in packs of 125 sheets of 6" X 6".  This stuff measures .001 thickness, reminds you of the foil that candy is wrapped in.  Very soft and conforms well to the edges.  I think a pack was around $15.00.  Every pack I have seen there was "Bright Gold" but I would think they make other colors.  The gold color is just a surface coating and wipes away clean with just a swipe of a paper towel slightly dampened with mineral spirits or denatured alcohol.

Good luck,

Gino:

I think you might be looking at a different product on Amazon. Any of the 91/4" x 12" sheets or anything sold in tubes is a heavier material. It's called "Light Weight" and have seen it listed as .003" thickness.

My previous post only applies to AMACO part # 07994R as listed in the previous post.  The previous posting has a link to Amazon, that link specifies thickness as .003" but that listing is wrong. The actual measurement is .001", the foils that we use in our home kitchens also measures about .001" but the Embossing foil seems like a softer material.  ???

If you find something that works, please let the group know.

I ordered and just received 2 packs of Jones Tones foil online from Sears.
