RSNeely
Hello everyone! I'm new to this site. I want to take on a new hobby this Winter (And maybe profit from it in the future) and start pouring soft plastics. I don't own anything yet for pouring. If anyone is selling anything even molds id be happy to have a look. Any advice from you guys would be really appreciated. I can tell already im going to learn a lot from just browsing the TU site. Bass-Boys
Its awesome and fun to make and catch fish on your own baits. but Profit ?? !! probably not !
RSNeely
Okay, maybe not profit... hahaha. I have a small business where I make jigs. I just figured when I get more experience pouring plastic, id offer that also on my page. That's what I meant.
MonteSS
Start right out with injecting Baitjunkys is good plastic to go with that wont give you problems.
RSNeely
What about hardener's and softener's? When is that added and in what amounts? I suppose if I was making shaky worms id want to add some softener.
ReflexionSwimbaits
I started as a hobby by reading and learning right here on TU and am in the process of going full time. I definitely agree with starting with injection molding over hand pouring unless you're wanting to do something that requires a hand pour. Baitjunkys plastic is the way to go... Honestly have fun and make mistakes - best way to learn!
RSNeely
What about temperature? I plan on pouring in the shed (with no heat). Any issues especially with winter right around the corner?
MonteSS
Soft is good if you want a very wiggly bait. I prefer medium and add a tablespoon of softener per 4 oz if I want softer. Keep molds and injector in the house. Heat molds in a toaster oven. Then after you start injectin it should stay warm.
mark poulson
Don't leave them outside in the cold. They can get condensation on them, and the hot plastic will turn it to steam explosively. Keep them inside, like Monte said.
