3bBrandon
I have been making my own tubes for a while now. I order the tube cutting tool from Lurecraft , and it does the job.... kinda. Does anyone here know of a good tube cutting tool that cuts the tails real good everytime with as little tearing as possible? ANY help would be greatly appreciated! smallmouthaholic
I inject all my tubes.Frustration and in consistencies cutting tube tales made me do so 5 years ago. I even made my own cutter from razor sharp.fabric discs- expensive and dangerous to use
DaveMc1
Get a small container of worm oil and dip the tail of every 3-4th tube in it before you cut. Once you fall into a rhythm there is no reason why you couldn't cut 300-500 tubes in an hour consistently. I don't dip tubes, I inject them in Angling AI's tube molds which requires you to hand cut the tails, after buying every tube mold available today this I found to be the fastest most consistent method of making a large quantity of tubes, as long as you watch how you place the tube in the cutting press you will be able to cut consistent tails. Again, lubing the tails is the key to not tearing them.
Fatman
Could that cutter from LureCraft cut rabbit skins for zonker strips???
mark poulson
If this is the one you're thinking of, I doubt it. I've never been able to cut a skin with fur on it with a press. I've always had to use a knife with a point and cut at angle as I draw the knife along the skin. http://www.lurecraft.com/Deluxe-Plastic-Splitter/productinfo/2X138/ I'm only looking at the picture, I haven't ever used one, so maybe it can be adapted by removing some of the blades. Rabbit skins are a lot tougher than plastisol I bet you could make a similar tool that would work, but with the blades angled, and spaced how you need them, so a pointed corner of the blade would make the initial penetration. But I would think you might have trouble keeping the blades from cutting the fur. I have to go slow to avoid that.

smallmouthaholic
I glad your happy w/ the prehistoric tool. I used one years ago w/ oil and a special circuit board base Shawn recommended. Precision tails where not a result of using that tool I.M.O. and experience. School Master
I built one along the same idea as the Lurecraft one, if that is prehistoric mine has to be somewhere around big bang time period then. I cut ziillions of the things with out any problem. The one thing I haven't seen mentioned is salt content. If you are having tearing issues, my guess would be your plastic is too soft or you don't have enough salt. If you want super soft tubes, smallmouth is correct, injection is the only way to go. To get nice cuts, your plastic has to have some stiffness or the blades just smash it and tear like your talking about. Try hardener or salt, let me know if that helps
