wchilton Posted October 25, 2014 Report Share Posted October 25, 2014 If you're talking about those "wrinkles" on the surface, that's just the lead hardening too quickly in a cold mold. Try warming the mold up with a few pours (without hooks). Also, some people blacken the surface of the cavity with soot from a candle. File them slowly over an old cookie sheet or similiar to capture the filings and make them as smooth as you want/need. Trim the keeper as cadman suggested. gone2long Posted October 26, 2014 Report Share Posted October 26, 2014 The flash can be trimmed but I'd just run my finger over the bait holder and knock it down a bit more holding power if you asked me and as stated coating or painting will cover up the wrinkle effect might also run a bit cooler with your lead it may help reduce the flashing as well. LimpNoodle Posted October 26, 2014 Report Share Posted October 26, 2014 Also clean your mold. You might have a very small amount of lead that's preventing it from closing. It will be hard to find. Ogajiga Posted November 6, 2014 Report Share Posted November 6, 2014 If you mean the small voids in the collar ring, thats a tuff one. Was me, I'd check the mold for a bump or spur in the area of the collar tube or ring indent that might cause flow obstruction & turbulence, and hone it off. Otherwise, I'd very carefully with a ball cutter or diamond face Dremel ball bit mounted in a hand held pin vise smooth the ring indent and soften the circumference of the ring edges into the collar. Could be that Cadman's mold release might be an easier fix. If neither works and I couldn't live with the blems, I'd get another mold.
