Do-It Ultra Jig Mold - Hook Size Question.

Recommended Posts

Concerning the two following Molds:

Do-It Ultra Jig Mold Model # SHR-5-A.

Cav sizes: 1/8 oz. 1/4 oz. 3/8 oz. 1/2 oz. & 5/8 oz.

Do-It Ultra Jig Mold Model # SHR-4-M.

Cav sizes: 1/2 oz. 3/4 oz. 1.0 oz. & 1.5 oz.

Eagle Claw #574 Jig Hook  -  No. 01, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 & 4/0 sizes.

I havent purchased the molds yet so i cant properly do a size check but i will be needing a much longer than average shank hook.

The only hook i am aware of that is available is the longer shanked Aberdeen #574 Jig Hook and i would like to use a heavier hook other than what is common with the lighter wire aberdeen hooks. I do know there is a heavier aberdeen which might be the #575 H model (?) but it has a standard length shank and it is not commonly available in a longer shank length model.

What would be the largest hook size in the #574 that would fit the cavities of these two molds. Most likely it would be the same size accomondation with the longer length sizes as it would be with the standard length size hooks.

You can use the Mustad 32831 which is a black nickel hook with a long shank. As far as the sizes, well on most Do-it molds you can go up or down 1 size but that isn't on all of them but my guess is you should be able to go with a 1/0 in place of a size #1 and a 2/0 where a 1/0 is called for. I hope this answered your question.

Thanks for your input. I have found that when going one size up on a hook size that sometimes the hook eye might be a bit larger or smaller from hook lot batch to hook lot batch. But thats usually not too much of a problem.

Im wondering what would be the longest shank hook that i could get that would fit this mold.
