RSNeely
Ive always tied skirts with wire, however i want to get into tying some with flashabou and round rubber. I think thread would be a better choice for these...especially the flash. What are some good thread options?
Jig Man
I like flat waxed thread because it is very strong. I also have a large whip finisher to work on the big jigs.
Basseducer
I like nylon upholstery thread. It is thin, very strong and takes glue well. It comes in many colors and you can find it almost anywhere.
smalljaw
I use Danville flat waxed nylon in 210 denier for all my bass jigs that I tie with thread, which these days is almost all of them.
RSNeely
Where do you buy your thread Smalljaw? Edited December 28, 2014 by RSNeely
mark poulson
I use plain red tying thread to wrap my different skirt colors individually, so I can position them where I want them, and then wrap it all with wire when it's where I want it. In the past, I've used old braid to wrap, and put a drop of super glue to hold it. Those skirts wore out before the braid failed.
smalljaw
Where do you buy your thread Smalljaw? I buy it from http://stores.crazyanglertackle.com/ . I used to get it from Grandpa Bobs custom jigs but his service is unreliable, sometimes it takes a month or more if he has backordered items and it happens a lot. He is the cheapest by far if you want to take a chance, but for me it wasn't worth it because he will charge your credit card and then he doesn't let you know anything, basically if he doesn't have it in stock your order status says processing and he won't answer emails and if you are lucky you can reach him by phone but he doesn't always answer it. Crazy Angler Tackle is a few cents more but you'll get great service, it is worth it and the price is still really good.
Jig Man
I use the same as smalljaw and don't need much so I get it in the fly shop at Bass Pro.
Musky Glenn
Rod wrapping nylon thread works well, You can find it at Bass Pro or Mud Hole. Coat with clear finger nail polish and good to go. Many colors available but hard to beat a little splash of the red color thread.
