SpoonMinnow
I used to use thread to tie on skirts to spinnerbaits and jigs but no more. Zip ties are easy, fast and don't slip. If you sell baits, that might be a customer issue, but I like them especially if I want to change skirt colors and reuse the skirts - I just just cut the zip and store the skirt in a plastic snack bag. The fish don't care one bit! Edited January 1, 2015 by SpoonMinnow
Jig Man
I've tried them a time or two but like the bands better for jigs. I can make them up in advance for jigs and carry extras with me when I am on an extended trip. I wire tie my spinnerbaits as they take a beatin'. The fish don't care one bit! I'm with Jig Man on this. I wire tie for my customers and I use "o" rings or rubber collars for my own use. Reason being, is I keep different color skirts in my boat, so when I want to change or if I lose one, they are easy to put on or take off So my question to you is this. How do you initially put the skirt on. I assume the skirt has a collar on it to keep it from falling apart, then you slide it on, put the wire tie on , cinch it and then cut the collar off? I'm curious about your process.
smalljaw
I don't have a ton of issues with skirts being pulled off so for me the skirt bands work well. I do the same thing as Cadman, I'll usually bring 3 spinnerbaits with a dozen or 2 of the skirts already made up so I can change the color of the bait. If I'm making baits for friends, those get thread or wire tied skirts but I did look at zip ties and tried one and I'm not a fan of the look at all, if I have issues with the skirt getting pulled down I'll simply wire tie it.
