Recommended Posts

I got my news Jann's Netcraft catalog a few days ago and I noticed they have a cotter pin they are selling for a line tie or hook hangers. It is .040 diam. Annealed Stainless 1 3/8" long...2 questions...What does annealed mean? and how do you think these would work to connect jointed baits?..Nathan

Nathan, I think that is a pre-bent wire look made from .040 soft stainless.   I don't know the exact definition of annealed but it makes the wire softerfor bending.    I like a 1/16 x 1 inch brass cotter pins for line ties when I put the line tie in the bill.

Agree with Mark but those look OK from what I can tell.  Appear to be very similar to what I have made in the past with the usual line tie material.  I wrapped and crimped over appropriate diameter nail. However I thought the went in way to easy with glue up and decided like usual to do overkill and mainly do the twist line ties to get more surface area.

I just replaced a broken Poe's bill, and the straight wire line tie went back into the bait.  It pulled out pretty easily.  I don't think it would hold if the bill broke during the fight with a good fish.

When I make my own through the bill line ties, I put a doubled piece of sst wire down through two hole in the bill, and then bend them back toward the lure, so I have wire embedded in the epoxy I use to set the bill.

I put a kink in the two pieces of wire that got back into the lure, so there is a slight bend to hold them in the epoxy.  I haven't had any failures.
