aulrich
So I have been playing with Paul Adams Phox minnow I like the profile but I want to upscale it. Since it is based off of ¼” balsa, I thought to base the up scaled version on 3/8” and just run the plans over the photo copier with a 50% increase. I don’t want a third hook hanger if I can get away with it But I would expect the addition would not be too hard. I’ll be using the same ¼” lead wire for ballast so I know there will be some mucking about there. But Is that possible or are there issue that don’t scale linearly. I would think down sizing would be trickier I would love to make some #3 a or #5 rapala classic minnow sized.
RayburnGuy
The photo editing program I use to scale lures up or down in size keeps the aspect ratio the same. Meaning it keeps everything in perspective. The hook hangers should balance out at the same locations on the up scaled lure as it does on the original. Keep in mind that the amount of ballast used will have to be greater to keep the action as close as possible to the original lure. mark poulson
My computer has paint, and any photos I load from my email get opened in paint. It has a resize tab, so I can reduce or enlarge both the height and the width independently, if I want. Now that I've typed that out, I can see how I could use it to reshape a lure to thinner or taller pretty easily. Doh!!!
Anglinarcher
To answer your question, no, not all actions scale linearly. But, that is seldom a problem when you size up and it is more of a problem with swim style baits. Most of the time the photo copy machine or the computer programs are just fine for what you want to do.
bass100
I have photo editing software but I find it easier to scale a picture with microsoft word. You can scale the picture by percentage and you also have rulers to see exactly how big the picture is before you print it.

aulrich
Yea software wise I am good any number of things manipulate the plan, it was more how to work the ratios of length width and height. So I guess there is some experimenting in the future.

If you want to do the ratios of length, height, and depth that is 3D software and it will probably cost more than your computer.
