Hook Size Question

Recommended Posts

I have that mold and I really like it, it makes a great heavy cover swim jig. That said, the reason it looks smaller to you is it is a 60 degree hook instead of the normal 30 degree hook.

I forgot to tell you that I thought is was normal size and thought a 1/2oz bait with a 5/0 hook should be good to go with a 5" swim bait trailer, that is when I found it isn't going to work. I measured the hooks and that is when it occurred to me that the 60 degree angle makes it shorter, the same thing with my Snootie jig but a 3.5" bass magic swim bait works well and you get the advantage of a big meaty hook.

No, you have the right hook, it just a 60 degree hook and most swim jigs use a 30 degree. The 60 degree hook is a bit shorter as more of the hook shank is in the bend, a 30 degree, being a bit straighter, has less shank in the bend plus the hook is a flat eye which makes it a bit shorter looking as well. It is a good jig, it is made for power fishing so don't sweat it, the jig and the hook are fine.
