Wadeeng
I've been using the MCU S-81 for some time now and have always applied it by dipping or brushing with great results. Last week I attempted to spray the product with one of my Iwata "cup style" air brushes. At first it sprayed great but after a bit the product began to dry and get stringy as it existed the airbrush. I never used a reducer because I was spraying a small amount. What am I doing wrong?
RayburnGuy
I've sprayed DN S81 a couple times and thinned it with acetone. However my results were just the opposite of yours. When I added too much acetone it would spray the "strings" your talking about. I cut back on the acetone and it sprayed fine. Actually, the only time I got the "strings" is when holding the airbrush a little too far away from the work while trying to cover a larger area. (coating a gun stock) Even when some of the strings laid on the surface it was easy to burn them back into the finish by spraying over them with another coat. I know this isn't much info, but it's the best I can offer. My only suggestion would be to try adding acetone in small amounts and see how it does for you. good luck, Ben
Wadeeng
Ben, thank you for the feed back. Can you offer any comments as to the suggested ratio of acetone to S-81?
RayburnGuy
I didn't bother to measure it precisely since clearing the gun stock was going to be a one time thing. I wasn't looking to spray lures with it since I only build baits a couple at a time and brushing it on serves my purpose. Sorry. Ben
ctenn
I have had luck spraying Dick Nite by reducing by 25 to 30 percent. I believe that comes with the DN instructions. I've usually sprayed on 3 to 4 coats on the Musty plugs I've made but it seems to be pretty tough with reguard to hook rash/teeth marks.
