Matt Moreau
Sup guys! I am trying to figure out what i can use for a tail material on my hard swimbaits. I want something that is harder than plastisol but still soft enough where it will collapse in a fishes mouth. I have experimented with using hardner in plastisol but i can't get the stiffness i wanted. I like what River2Sea uses on its baits like the S-waver and looking for something like on the roman made swim baits. If you have any ideas or suggestions please let me know! Cheers, Matt
mark poulson
Matt, I posted this in the soft baits forum. I use clear margarine tub tops. They are thin enough to fold, but strong enough to hold up. The plastic fits in a fine saw kerf, is held in with crazy glue, and can be removed and changed with an exacto knife. If you want a strong, flexible tail, I think if you make a mold, and then shoot silicone caulking into it, that should work.
Anglinarcher
I use silicone myself. Specifically I made an RTV mold of Alumilite HS2, spray it with mold release, then I pour HS2 into the mold to replicate the S Waver tail. It is exactly what you want, softer then tub tops, firm enough for stability....
squirrel3495
I've been using Alumilite Flex 30. I really like it so far. Just as soft as worm plastic but won't tear under normal fishing conditions like the slammer tails. Downside is that it is a honey color. I've use smooth on so strong to color it red and black they worked great. They don't make silver. Going to try the alumilite metallic powder. I put in in a toaster over at 150 deg and it cures in about 3 hours.
Matt Moreau
Thanks Mark but I'm looking for something I can duplicate in a mold pretty easy. I may try urethane or like the flex 70...I need something firm. Thanks for the replies and ideas!
