backwoods1975
My wife is 5'2 and is looking for a pop r and twitch bait spinning rod. I think we need to keep it fairly short but the main part is the length from end of handle to center of reel seat needs to be 7". That should make it easier for her to twitch the rod. She grips the rod with the reel between her ring and middle fingers. So should I try cutting a factory rod handle down to 7" or go custom? Musky Glenn
You can cut a factory handle and reinstall the butt cap for a nice job. If you could find a rod with the full cork "Tennessee" handle you could just position the reel at the seven inch mark and not have to do any thing. That gives the best feeling reel seat of all handles in my opinion. Musky Glenn
backwoods1975
i ran the tennessee grips past the wife, but she isnt thrilled about taping the reel on. so do the rings work good on a tennessee grip?
Musky Glenn
I never used the rings. I just stretched black electrical tape tight then put tennis racket wrapping over that. The type that has some padding to it. Musky Glenn
mark poulson
Falcon offers some nice rods in the 6' length. Before you go custom, check out their rods. I really like both the Low Rider and Cara series.
BobP
I have a custom Tennessee handle rod with rings. You need to tape the rings down to insure they stay put, IMO. But if you use Scotch 2242 Rubber Electrical tape, which doesn't leak sticky adhesive like regular electrical tape, it works great. The problem might be finding a store-bought rod with that type of handle these days. But they work great and it's nice to be able to adjust the reel position on the fly to balance out the rod. backwoods1975
well i believe i now have talked the wife into a tennesse handle. I believe she will be happy with it. on a side note, I think I have talked her into trying rodbuilding. So I am going to find some books to help her. backwoods1975
The wife and I went to a rod builder gathering in Ohio last weekend, it was a great learning experience. We also left with some great door prizes including a complete rod kit from mudhole. It was really nice to see the tools in person and gave me a good idea what we needed to purchase. Can't wait for our goodies to arrive.
