ING
It is not natural hairs and their behavior in the water is different from bucktails.
Anglinarcher
Is that why it is called "Craft" Fure and not natural fur???? LOL I have tied tons of flies, and lures, with craft hair/furs and you are correct, they are sure not bucktail. Sometimes you want the action of the Craft stuff, sometimes natural bucktail. ING
What the action of "Craft" Fur you are talking about? That hairs just following the head and sometimes glue up together. No any action.
Mbirdsley
Ive never used craft fur but,my take on it that it moves more with the water than bucktail would. is that correct? So it would probally probally be better in the summer time when fish are more active?
smalljaw
What the action of "Craft" Fur you are talking about? That hairs just following the head and sometimes glue up together. No any action. Craft fur has a ton of action in the water, now there is another product called "Fish Hair", it is good stuff but it doesn't have much action, it is often called synthetic bucktail. The only time I saw craft fur stick to itself was after it comes out of the water, but in the water the movement is very fluid and natural, it flows as well as rabbit, if not better. Does craft fur also go by the name of synthetic polar bear fur or is this a totaly differnt type of synthetic all together?
smalljaw
There are all kinds of craft fur, I mainly use Hareline Extra Select craft fur and one called polar fiber but imitation polar bear is normally a type of craft fur, you have to read the description. Fish Hair is a good product but it isn't for a beginner because you have to cut your own taper otherwise you end up tying paint brushes, but it works similar to bucktail. smallmouthaholic
Now- to add to the confusion. There is craft hair used to tie float 'n flies.I've tried the rest but always come back to craft hair for it's unique qualities and subtle action. Fatman
Love craft fur - use the Hairline and I also use the Darice but you always end up having to order anything beyond black, brown and white - once in a while you can get red also. Gave up the Punisher stuff once I finished up what I had, it seems to have way to much underfur in it. If I could find a bunch of the Targus craft fur I'd get it, I love the stuff. Smalljaw is spot on about the Fish Hair and cutting the taper on the stuff is tough to learn so you get it every time, and with the craft fur and natural furs I don't worry about using it anymore.
