jonister
Does anyone know where i can get tin at a good price, or any scrap items that i can melt for it, I pour lead but i really like how you can polish it and how i can cast a bigger jig on my light rods. I have found many sites that offer it for 20-35$ per pound, also what is the difference between "popcorn flakes" and plain tin ingots, i found some sites selling the flakes and just wanted to know anyones preference. I suppose the flakes would melt faster but is here any other difference? thanks!

Kasilofchrisn
Thanks guys! they have seem to have the best prices ive seen so far! Is there any items that might be in a scrap yard ect. that might contain actual tin? Pewter is 95% tin. You can sometimes find scrap pewter at garage sales and such. jonister
Ok thanks! does it separate when melted from the other materials, such as slag off of lead?
Kasilofchrisn
I haven't yet melted any though I do have plans to do so. My understanding is that you can just melt the pewter and use it as is.
Salty's
Pewter doesn't shine like tin and it oxidizes faster in water.
jonister
Ok thanks! good to know, maybe pewter would be a good lead free sinker source since it is fairly heavy.
Kasilofchrisn
I intend to paint my tin/pewter jigs anyway. Sine they are lighter than lead they will hopefully give a different action to the jigs that hopefully the fish like.
jonister
That is what im hoping for too! I never thought about painting them, shows how i think . I also enjoy light tackle fishing and hope i can use these bigger styles on my spinning gear.
odinohi
Pewter is about 2/3 the weight of lead. May or may not be lead free, but will still be lighter then lead. Modern pewter will be lead free.
jonister
Ok thanks! I will probly look for newer pewter in that case
