patrick reif
I won a Kistler Helium 3 last summe. It was marked as a 6'9" MHF. It really measures 7'1" and that additional length makes it too whimpy for my style of fluke fishing. Can I just take a Dremel with a cutting blade and shave off the tip, then re-apply a tip top. I've never done this type of rod repair, and don't want to screw up a $250 stick that Trey Kistler hand built and signed. Thanks in advance. Musky Glenn
You can and it is an easy fix. But you just never know what you will end up with. It might take a foot off to achieve the desired results. You might be able to run your line thrugh all but the tip eye and see how that affects the action. This will give you a better feel of what you will have when you cut rod. That rod should sell nicely and bring enough to buy a rod of your liking. BobP
I agree, when you start whacking off pieces of rod tip you never really know what you're gonna get. I also think you should sell the rod, which should go for a good price, and buy something that suits you better.
