Bigkahuna
I recently bought a batch of floating 4 1/2" minnows and the baits have zero wiggle and pull straight. Has anyone else had this issue or is this normal and need to be tuned? Any info is appreciated. Edited March 16, 2015 by Bigkahuna
Travis
Most action on that sort of lure is more of from how you work the bait with the rod. Sharp twitches, jerks, sweeps, and pulls.
BobP
A jerkbait should wiggle when retrieved. If I had a batch that didn't, I'd ask for a refund and send them back.
llokkii
You tying directly to the lure or are you using a snap? (Not a snap swivel.) Sometimes a lure tied directly will have limited action. I'd try either a snap or tie directly to a split ring if you haven't already. I've bought lures somewhat similar and haven't had any trouble with getting action out of them. But I use snaps because most of the fish I target are just eating size and not bruisers. If you are using snaps or split rings then it could be a bad batch. Also, did you try these out with the right size hooks? Or with hooks at all? (Some guys don't put these on when they try them out because they want to see how they run first.) I know a lot of these baits you buy require certain sizes to run right. Or should I say recommended sizes. If not, slap the recommended size hooks on them and try them again.Sounds crazy but it might do the trick. Hope so. hate to have you getting a bad batch. Bigkahuna
I used snaps and tried tying directly. I like a 4 or 6 lite wire hook with #3 rings..I also received the same lure in 3" and has incredible action so I sent an email to the company...we'll see what they say. Thanks for the info. Rowhunter
You get what you pay for, sometimes they work ,sometimes not so much. Send it back, sounds like you gave it a proper test. Douglas
llokkii
Yep. Sounds like you gave it a good test. The fact you had a 3 inch bait working really indicates its probably a bad batch. Where did you get them from?
Bigkahuna
I got them from lure parts online. Their response was that as far as they understood it was a glider bait and was supposed to track straight but the rep wasnt completely sure. ??? Rowhunter
First off, glide baits will never have a lip. Second, a glide bait walks the dog ,left then right with long glides in between. A bait with a lip ,that comes in straight with no wiggle, is commonly called a TURD! Douglas
llokkii
Hard to argue with Rowhunters assessment. If it has a lip, it should wiggle period. I'd be sending them back after talking to their rep again.
