RayburnGuy
Hey guys, I've never used swing head jigs before, but am wanting to try them. Any suggestions on what plastics are good to use on them as well as any tips on how to fish them would be much appreciated. thanks, Ben
Jig Man
Ben I haven't fished them much but did buy one of the molds. I have googled it and found a few articles and one video by KVD. It sounds like you can fish it like a crankbait or jig.
RayburnGuy
Thanks Jig Man. I'll do a search and see what I can come up with. Ben
DaBehr
By favorite bait is the Do-it Berry Bug. Either the smaller size or the full size depending on the time of the year (colder water I go smaller). I also like the Do-it Birch Bug. I watch for hits on the fall then I reel it in like "a really slow crank bait" with occasional stops. When I set the hook I've done better with a firm sweeping motion to the side vs. straight up. Most of the time they hit it pretty good...but sometime you feel you line go slack because they have picked it up and are moving in the direction you were retrieving it. I always set the hook if I don't feel the bait. If you are doing the sweep set it probably looks like a craw zipping across the bottom so no harm done
RayburnGuy
Thanks DaBehr. Now if it will just stop raining long enough to get in a day of fishing so I can try these puppies out. thanks again, Ben
BobP
Tommy Biffle makes bottom contact with it and then slowly reels so it has at least occasional bottom contact. Really, I think you can fish them any way you'd fish a regular football head jig, which they basically are. Look up "Biffle Bug" to see what plastic he uses - it's a fairly modest size creature bait, so there are lots of alternatives. There are also lots of knock-off 'swing jigs' now on the market.
