Painter1
I am experimenting with combining materials for some bass jigs. One has silicone "inside" and one has it "outside". I'm sure some of you guys have experience with this. I welcome your thoughts. Edited March 30, 2015 by Painter1
DaBehr
I have always tied mine on the inside...but after seeing yours I'm going to do some on the outside! I really like the look of those. I normally like my hair jigs with a slim profile..and my silicone skirted full. So...do them both ways and report back after a few trips! Jeff Hahn
I always put the silicone or rubber on the outside. I assume that it's more free to wiggle when the jig is paused if it's on the outside.
smalljaw
Those look fantastic!!!! I do them both ways depending when I'm using them. I also make one on a walleye head to match the pro smallmouth jig from bass pro shops and it is on the outside. If I'm using them in 35 to 38 degree water I like the silicone, if I'm using it, to be inside, for 40 to 45 degrees I'll opt to put it outside. The reason is the movement you get, being that the silicone is shorter than normal and on the sparse side, it has more movement so when the jig hits bottom the silicone flares out and starts waving around immediately, on the inside it is only the tips that move and they only move as far as the hair waves around.
