chiznad20
I am new to the world of lure painting. I need some help with picking out or finding a kit that would work for me. What are some of you guys using. Is there a specific brand that works best or website you have found that sells things at a decent price. I plan on just painting some lures for myself and friends. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Jaw
I use an iwata eclipse. They can be purchased at hobby lobby with a 40% off coupon. It is less than $200 before the coupon. You may also want to try the search function and reference airbrushes. There ere some great discussions on this subject, also the airbrush I use is a duel action gravity fed brush. chiznad20
Okay I have heard that brand a lot in other searching. There were just so many places out there I was lost. I figured I would ask people who were doing it for some help. Thanks again man.
Jaw
It's a well known company that produces good products. I recommend buying a good brush first. I tried the cheaper brushes first and never had much luck with them.I have read from others that they have had good results with cheaper guns but it didn't work that way for me. I use a small pancake compressor that I picked up for around $100 and a regulator I got at harbor freight , it has a built in moisture trap. I also have an inline moisture trap and mac valve that I use to regulate air flow at my gun. Total system is about $300 give or take. chiznad20
If okay so I have read some more and found mostly everyone is saying the Iwata Eclipse is the best thing to get. What size of compressor should I be looking for? What psi will I need to be shooting at?
gone2long
Try Don's airbrush tips then go to Chicago airbrush on their site they have a selection chart/definition/explanation sheet on their web page that will help you immensely. MuskyGary
The Eclipse comes with a .35 needle, you can get a .5 replacement needle from Chicago Airbrush. Makes painting a whole lot easier. The .35 has a tendency to clog up with some of the paints.

DaBehr
I just started painting this winter and I have been very happy with the Iwata Revolution with the Iwata Sprint Air compressor. Chicago Airbrush supply has very good prices and very quick shipping. http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/iwrebraisywi2.html Dakota Lakes Tackle has very good baits and excellent how to videos. I also bought his book and it's really worth it for a beginner! http://www.dakotalakestackle.com/ No matter what you select...make sure you get a brand name brush with a small top feed (gravity feed) cup. A few drops of paint goes a long way...and they are super easy to clean between colors without wasting paint
chiznad20
Okay check this out for me please. Will this work. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000BQKFAI/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1JAL2E5MMUKIV
gone2long
Yes that will work fine, if you already have say a home compressor for tools you will not need an airbrush specific compressor just a few fittings and things to get going as long as you can accept the noise of the compressor. chiznad20
I don't have a compressor yet either. Have been reading some things on chicago air. That is what I am trying to find now. Hundreds of different ones out there.
O'l Robzilla
Maybe check your local buy and sell adds. some people try it have problems and sell them really fast and cheap. Even nail salons use them for makeup and nails and they are looking to sell stuff as well. Local model clubs and E-Bay might help. makes the cost a lot easier to bare.... the start of the hobby can be expensive.
chiznad20
what about a compressor like this?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/261835532064?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Uncle Jay
That looks like a good one but, you don't know anything about it and neither does the seller. Also, look at the shipping cost. 60 bucks! I have been using a compressor I bought on ebay for $99.99 and free shipping. It is a Master compressor with an air gauge, moisture trap and an attached air tank. I have been using it now for more than a year and I have zero complaints about it. Before that I was using a testors compressor that was loud and did not have an air tank. It was ok for general spraying but for detail work, my gun would clog quite often and the pulsation would cause my airbrush to "spit" on my work. Not Cool! I don't get the spitting with the attached air tank. I get a nice even flow. I am by no means a pro. But I am happy with the equipment I now use. I hope this helps you. Good Luck and be careful! This is a very addicting pastime!
