Painter1
I have been tinkering with a combination of hair & silicone jigs but have not had a chance to try them out. Are any of you using these kind f jigs?
smalljaw
Yes, so far this season my best fish have come on the combination jig. The jig that has been good for me and my fishing partner has been one I call the "creeper jig". It is rabbit hair tied so the hair doesn't go past the hook bend with 4 to 6 strands of silicone that hang 1.5" behind the hook, the jig is used with a Prowler Lures small chunk which is 1.75" in length, that has been the best bait in cold water for us. Right now silicone jigs have been working but we had a cold front go through and the Smallie P jig has taken a few fish that have dropped back when the temperature dropped. That jig is close to the old Bass Pro Shops Enticer pro smallmouth jig as it is a walleye head tied with buck tail and 15 to 20 strands of silicone that go completely around the jig. They have actually worked better that straight hair jigs this year but I believe it was due to the water going from the upper 30s right to 50 degrees in less than 3 days. Painter1
I have watched your video(s) and appreciate the tips. We have been using Ned rigs and Flukes with good success. I plan to make some stuff for another St. Jude fundraiser and wondered if those combo jigs have caught on yet or are still a "secret weapon"
smalljaw
I was out yesterday and we only caught a few small ones but the only thing we could get them to hit was a buck tail and silicone jig with no trailer fished super slow. Water temp was 54 degrees but the fish here have been in 60 degree water temps more than 2 weeks ago, we had a warming trend followed by a week long cold front that have shut the fish down but the hair and silicone jigs manage to get a few bites. Painter1
Thanks. They aren't really eating jigs yet here at Tablerock so haven't been able to test them. Topwater, Flukes & Swimbaits have been keeping us busy this week. Some HUGE whites mixed in with the Bass. We have been throwing only home made baits. Topwater baits are a trade for my jigs and plastic. I figured out that the old Sluggo hooks that Lunkers City put out work best with my "Fluke" like baits. 6"white Paddle tail Swim Baits ( Chart dipped tail) on a 4/0 bullet head jig have caught the biggest fish. I almost can't bring myself to use store baits anymore. Bass have just finished spawning here and the Shad haven't started yet. No surface activity but they can be drawn up to the bait. The big thing here is Ned Rigs now.
