Painter1
The moving parts on my Lee Pot are getting loose, especially the top bolt. I'm wondering about replacing it with another unit with better access for molds. What is the best melter you have used (110v),?
cadman
If money is not an issue, the best melter I have ever used is an RCBS Pro-Melt.
odinohi
+1 on the promelt. If you need parts RCBS will send them to you for free.
LimpNoodle
+2 on the RCBS. Best money I've ever spent on this hobby.
Painter1
You guys convinced me. Best price I found was on Amazon. Prime member so shipping is free.
LimpNoodle
Midway had them for $360 with free shipping last week. Also a $50 rebate.
Painter1
I assembled the new lead furnace today and am perplexed by the operating lever stop adjustment system (E in the diagram). The bolt is just "slopping around" in that hole and does not stop the lever. Surely, I am doing something wrong? As you can see in one of the photos, the bolt is able to slide in front (or back) of the lever
LimpNoodle
Do you have the bracket upside down? There's no slop in my pot in that area.
Painter1
NEVER MIND. Bracket needed to be flipped over. Duh!
Painter1
Do you have the bracket upside down? There's no slop in my pot in that area. Yes. The embarrassing part is - right after I posted this, my wife looked at it and said the same thing. Directions did not differentiate top from bottom, but I'm sure they felt that anyone playing with hot lead should not be a moron. Guilty, LOL
Vodkaman
Don't be too hard on yourself. I am proud to be an engineer, but every now and then wifey beats me to a solution and then tells me, "And that's engineering" Dave
m.t.pockets
Don't feel bad I did the same thing dUUUUHHHHH
LimpNoodle
<---- Voice of experience. I MAY have done the same thing when I was assembling my pot.
Painter1
Just wanted to thank you guys that reccomended this lead furnace. It is definitely better built than the Lee pot and working very well
Tapupa
I have 3 RCBS Pro Melts that have served me well for 20+ years. Have conservatively pored more than 500,000 jigs of various sizes through them without a problem other than a yearly cleaning of the pot. I recently had 2 of them rebuilt by RCBS. New pots, new stems, new rheostats, and new heating elements for $100 each pot. You just can't beat these pots............
