Musky0503
OK this begins my learning. What is the gauge mean then?
smalljaw
Don't worry about gauge, when you buy the lure grade wire buy stainless and you will want .051 diameter. When we buy wire for our lures we go by diameter, then wire used for tying skirts is gauge. Remember, you can't just buy any old wire, it has to be lure grade, you can get it from Barlows, Lure Parts Online, as well as Janns Netcraft. The reason you want to buy from a supplier is so you don't end up with jewelry or floral wire which isn't strog or stiff enough for making lures. If you must have a gauge it would be 16. Musky0503
thank you, next question, Why do you buy wire for skirts? and Where do you by wire for baits? Edited June 7, 2015 by Musky0503
LimpNoodle
How much wire do you want for baits? Hagen's has the best price if you need a lot. 1000 8" .051 shafts is about $65 delivered. If you want smaller quantities then read this thread as you've been given several good suggestions. Some people use thin copper wire to tie silicone skirts. 1. Make a list of everything you need. 2. Price shop and try and get as much as possible from one supplier.
MuskyGary
The spinnerbait wire can be bought precut (six inches is popular) with a loop ready made on one end. The wire for making skirts is because the rubber bands that they use for skirts will break in time. The places that smalljaw suggested are all good places to buy supplies.
