aulrich
So I was out yesterday actually using some of the lures I have been painting over the last while, with one of my sons, and unsurprisingly to us the top performer that day was yellow/red lipless. And oddly this is not the first time that has happened for us. To back up some there is a classic Canadian lure the Len Thompson 5 of diamonds spoon it’s one of those lures that most if not all Canadian fresh water hard tackle fisherman currently have or have had more than one in their life. So as I show my boy the latest batch of lures I invariably get the question have you made a couple of yellow/red (yellow body red head and back) since it will either get chewed up or lost so we always need more than one. So what are your favorite color combinations where it’s not really attempting to be natural at least to our eyes
Nathan
The yellow body/red head is defiantly a old combo that has produced through the years( as has the white/ red head) ..It's funny how old becomes new again.A pattern I found that works well I found by accident. My wife went through a " cow " thing several years ago where she collected anything Blk/ white Holstein theme.I built and painted her a " Holstein" colored crank bait and took it to a near by pond to tune it and slayed the fish on it.This pattern ( Pearl White with Black splotches) has proved itself on many occasions .Against a light background the black is visible and against a dark background the White is visible..makes sense..Nathan
mark poulson
I think contrasting colors are more visible, and so they draw the bass' attention. Years ago, Carol Martens, Aaron's mom, told our Club that Aaron was color blind, so he picked color on the basis of how much the differences/contrasts showed. If you look at the Robo colors Aaron's Magic and Aaron's Madness, they do have contrasting colors. That seems to have worked out pretty well for him, so far. Venutian_Lures
I came up with a pattern called "Mazarine". Think I have it posted in the hardbaits gallery. To put it lightly...it is obnoxious, but I can't seem to keep the fish off of it. Works for me!
BobP
I like to throw Firetiger pattern around vegetation and when in Canada to fish for bass it works well there too. Lots of contrast and it vaguely resembles a bluegill. Edited June 23, 2015 by BobP
aulrich
Last night I had a flash back to a "forms design" class from 20 years ago and at least to the human eye IIRC Blue with Yellow text was the clearest combination. Firetiger has been working well , I made a dark fire tiger but no takers yet on that one. Black/white is on the to do red/white oddly is on the bubble mostly because I have a clown super shad rap with no teeth marks in it.
