ACarrell
My "first" was when I was about 6 years old .... Some dog hair tied to a hook....caught bluegill and bass ! Anyway, skip forward 40 years ... And here's the first "real" lure I've made . I made it mostly to see if I could do it. I carved it from walnut...hopefully will be a halfway ok suspended crankbaits. Here's a pic while the epoxy dries. And of course now I'm making a few topwater baits... I could see this becoming an addiction !

Only admin can remove a post The rule says pictures are allowed if it adds insight to the topic..... The topic here is your first lure, which is pictured......... I would assume you didn't break the rule

ReactionAttack
When I was 5 or 6 I raided my dad's top dresser drawer for a bobbin and thread. I waited until he went duck hunting and nabbed a handful of teal feathers. There is a picture of me somewhere in his file cabinets where I am thrashing away with a fly rod at the local creek and jerking shell crackers out one after the other. I enthusiastically tied flies until I was 12, when I got into bass fishing. I entered a working man's tourney at 13 and won big bass. I overheard the winner talking about how he would have had even more weight if the hook on his jig had not broken. I started looking into pouring my own heads, and within 6 months was casting flipping jigs with Owner hooks and wire-tied skirts. People loved them, and I started my first business out of my parent's garage. The first jig wasn't pretty. Flat brown acrylic paint for the head, poop-brown and purple skirt. At 16 I borrowed my dad's Paasche and started painting cranks, which led to making cedar and balsa plugs. The first one was ugly and had paint drips all over. But man did it catch a load of smallies in the Brazos River behind my house. 15 years later I'm designing match-the-hatch swimbaits for Gulf coast species, and still turning out jigs for my loyal following. joelhains
This thread just brought to mind old memories from my childhood. When I was probably five or six I remember finding small pieces of scrap sheet metal with holes already in them from my dad's work shop. My mom was a florist so I got a hold of some of her florist wire and bent them into the shape of a hook them attached them to the pieces of sheet metal. They were my five year old version of a spoon!
