Roadkill
Don't know if this is the right place or not but here goes. I see lots of Bucktail Lead Head Jigs with 4 or 5 vertical stripes. Can anyone tell me what marker, tool or whatever is used to make this stripe? Thanks for any help.
RayburnGuy
One way to do it is to tie a barred feather on each side of the jig. Small jaw has a video on YouTube showing how to do this. The feathers are called "grizzly hackle". Roadkill
Thanks RayburnGuy: Already tried that and did not produce the same effect. What I need is something that will actually mark the Bucktail.
bassrecord
Some tiers use Pantone pens. They come in different colors and widths. I'm probably way in the minority, but I'm not a big fan on most materials because the Pantone color eventually erodes, discolors and washes off. RayburnGuy
They sell a lot of "waterproof" or "permanent" markers, but I've yet to use one that is truly waterproof and permanent unless it is sealed against water intrusion. One thing you could do is use one of these markers and then keep one handy in your boat, or tackle bag, and use it to touch up any fading. good luck, Ben
Roadkill
OK, Thanks John & Ben. I'll try the marker idea and see what happens.
bassrecord
Another thought. You might surf taxidermy sites and arrow sites to find something to make vertical stripes. Both get into fairly exotic painting situations and a follow-up phone call might be more time effective and save testing. Good luck! Jaw
Prismacolor markers are what I and many others use although it's been awhile since I visited my tying bench
Roadkill
OK, thanks Jaw. I'll try them. Other markers haven't been great so far so I'm willing to give anything a shot.
fisheye56
I use a paint pen I found in an art store
jonister
You might try a Copic art pen and air brush. its a really cool system.
goodtimesfishing
Sharpies work great and craft stores like Joanne's or hobby lobby have a HUGE assortment of colors! Sharpie also makes a paint pen I saw at Joanne's....have not tried them and the actual ink pen might actually be better for feathers.
