RayburnGuy
Thanks TJ. I really don't have a clue as to what I'm doing, but it seems like it's going to be fun learning. Ben
smalljaw
You nailed it, minnow heads like that need a good flare because of how they are fished. The grizzly soft hackle is a nice touch!!!!
Jig Man
That for sure looks about 1000 X better than my first buck tail jig.
RayburnGuy
Thanks everyone. I can already tell one thing. This is so much fun that I'll soon have way more bucktails in stock than I'll ever be able to fish in what's left of this lifetime. Jig Man
Yes my friend that is so true. I got a bug about 8 years ago and tied up over 40 dozen. I'll never use all of them. Are you using a fly vise, bobbin and whip?
RayburnGuy
i bought a vise and bobbin Jig Man, but am tying off by hand. My reasoning behind tying off by hand is that the knot only needed to hold long enough for the thread to be coated in fingernail polish and continue to hold while the polish cured. I was a little unsure about what type of vise to get, but knew that I wanted something that would last as well as being designed to hold larger hooks without causing excessive stress on the vise. I ended up going with a Griffin Superior 3ARP. It's fully rotational and holds up to a 6/0 hook. At $113 it's not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but what I feel is a good model for the money. It can be clamped to a table or has a heavy metal stand that makes it possible to be used as a travel vise. It's really steady and holds the hooks rock steady. I think I'm going to be well pleased with it. The link to the vise is below if anyone wants to take a look. Jig Man
I enjoy tying buck tail and craft hair a lot more than using living rubber and silicone tabs. If you ever add chenille to your jigs you'll find a good whip a must. Keep posting up your progress.

RayburnGuy
Ben U been "Bit By The Bug" Good job Thanks JSC. I thought I'd be satisfied just building hard baits, but down deep I knew that wasn't going to last forever. Right now I'm trying to keep the fly tying stuff in Plano boxes and spare tackle bags, but it probably won't be long and I'll be building new shelves and storage areas. The bug that bit me must have been a big, mean one.
