Fatman
Very easy to use - If you can measure 1/4th of a teaspoon of powder, 2 tablespoons of white vinagar and can boil water you're all set to go!!!
BLT
I do batches of 12-15 bucktails at a time, in 2 galllons of water, 3 oz. vinegar, shot of synthropol and 1oz. of dye roughly. (depends on which color) What I found out the other day is I set my hot plate at 180, the next set point is 210 degrees. Had it there by mistake, what a difference in color! I have one of those "as seen on TV" hot plates just for dying. The one where you can touch it and its not hot until the pan is on it. Love that thing. JRammit
Fatman.... Ive got a ziplock bag stuffed with tiny body feathers from a few gadwall and widgeons Was wondering if/how i could use them... Example: in the place of maribou.... They are small feathers, not quite as tiny as maribou......... But i believe small enough to do the trick Have you (or anyone) tried this?... Would it be worth the effort??..... Ive never tied a fly, more intested in crappie jigs Also, as far as dye... Ive read kool-aid is an option... Thoughts??
Fatman
Depending on size you could use them for tying jigs as long as the jig head you're tying them on isn't too big, and if real small you could use them for making collars on wet flys. Yes you can dye feathers with kool-aid, you'll have to use white vinegar to set the color. Cherry kool-aid Hawaiian Punch Lemon Lime Splash
JRammit
Nice!... I'll have to dig the bag of feathers out, they are somewhere?? In the mean time, i found some usefull stuff at Walmart
Fatman
Just make sure you use REAL canning jars!!! Ball jars with the raised letters, or Mason jars with the raised letters - found out the hard way Ball has CRAFT glass jars that won't take the heat of hot water. JRammit
We keep jars from spaghetti sauce for multiple uses... Ive used them to heat water in the microwave, they seem to handle the heat fine
