Hook Equivelent To A Gamakatsu 111

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a hook that will work with a mold designed for the Gamakatsu 111. The reason is a new shaky head mold Do-it came out with, the Randy Howell signature shaky. They have a large model that take massive 604s but the finesse style uses the 111 and I hate it. The hook only comes in bronze which is what I have a problem with, I get black nickel hooks for a lot less that are better than the 111. Now, the hook doesn't need to have the O'Shaughnessy bend, it can be a regular round bend but I have the 111 and the eye is small so I don't have much hope, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The EC630/635 will fit in there but again they don't come in black nickel.

The VMC barbarian jig hooks should fit with some "adjustment" of the mold.  I had some samples of the barbarian hooks and used them in a 630/635 mold.  I had to shave down the pin that fits in the eye.

If  you care for Musad hooks in BLN;

Mustad 32746 in 5/0 works well in the smaller mold, even use the 6/0 on some cavities.

Mustad 32746 in 6/0 is what I use in the MAG mold.   I also uses some of the 604s in 7/0.

I too do not care for the bronze or the small gap of the G 111s.

The VMC 7150 worked but I ended up with a few where the lead covered the hook eye.

Anyone having any luck with other hooks?  SJ  how about a EC lazer version?  Any out there?

Just found that Barlow's has Eagle Claw 635 hooks in black pearl.

I'm going there tomorrow to pick some up!

Walking Dead,

Say you wanted to stick with the 7150 hook.  Take some red RTV and put a small amount in each cavity where the eye of the hook goes.  Liberally  dust all the RTV with talcum powder.  Now place the hook in the mold, more talcum powder.  Now close the mold and clamp it shut.

Wait 24 hours, blow the talcum powder out and remove the hooks.

You've just customized the mold for that hook.
