trout_tapout
I was wondering if anyone here knew how to pour ther thin rubbery plastic that they use for topwater frogs and "walk-the-dog" type lures. How would I go about getting a mold made for these and how expensive would it be? Any info would be great!!!! Josh K
charkins
Lure Craft makes several frogs and even a mouse type bait. Another mold that they have is the sluggo type bait or Bass Assassin type baits. Other places like Del-mart and Bob's tackleshop have those as well in aluminum molds that last much longer than Lure Craft molds. Hope this helps. trout_tapout
I want to make the THIN SKIN type frogs, the ones that when the fish bites into it the hook is then exposed, so in essence it is weedless. All of the frog molds that I have seen are for the thick frogs that are almost like worms in terms of thickness. I want to develope a topwater lure, they have them in Bass Pro Shops catelogs and such, ONLY I want to make a very big one.

BigZ
You can make a solid body frog using "microspheres" in the plastic, lurecraft sells them and they are cheaper at TAP plastics. It might also be better because the hook isn't molded into the lure, leaving the user a choice for the hook. That has been my biggest problem with the floating frogs is that those big nickel or broze hooks round bend suck hard. In order to make a snag-proof frog or a similar "weedwalking bait" with the thin skin, you will need a way to blow mold them; you will also need to find a supplier for the plastic in the proper color. I have only seen the tool dip in Black and Bright red. If you do figure out how to make a monster hollow bullfrog, I want to be first on the customer list. clemmy
Well, plastidip brand is available in white, clear, black, blue, red and yellow, so you should be able to make almost any color out of those... I don't know if plastip brand is, but the vast majority of tool handle dips (as well as those silly rubber coin purses that open when you bend them) are made of: Plastisol! So I'm sure you could figure out a way to use our coloring... just Google plastisol tool dip and you'll see what I mean
Delw
I am making frogs molds, I was wanting to make a frog mold like the ones you are talking about(hollow in the center) like a scum frog. theres a probelm with that due to hand pouring. its pretty much next to impossible again due to the thickness of the skin. That being said I have used exposed hooks and havent had any problems yet. Delw
